Why this business was started

Mindyana was started in 2015. We are not the original owners, but rather purchased the site in August 2017. The original seller started it both out of an interest in entrepreneurship and marketing, as well as an enthusiasm for meditation and Eastern spirituality. We bought it for similar reasons. The store was doing well, and Meg (who takes care of day-to-day management) has an interest in yoga and meditation.

The reason of selling this business

We do not have the marketing ability needed to meet our goals for this business. If we were comfortable making a small amount of profit per month, then we could keep it as-is. However, we believe that what this business needs to meet its potential is both stronger marketing skills and patience. Neither of us is able to provide that at this point, and our time is limited. Hence, we're moving on to other endeavors.

What's involved in running this business

Note that this business is primarily on a dropshipping model, with a small amount of inventory. Our suppliers are diversified, and do not depend on any one vendor or website.

Currently what's involved is order fulfillment, customer service, adding new products, sending promotional emails to the current list, and managing a simple Google Ads campaign. Meg currently does most tasks herself, but we do have part-time staff for fulfillment. At minimum it takes two hours per day to run if you do it all yourself, but that increases the more effort you put into the marketing. The original owner spent about 20-30 hours per week, with part-time fulfillment help (he ran the site as dropship-only).

Profit can vary substantially from month to month, especially advertising costs. For this business you can't really rely on Shopify's averages and need to see our Profit & Loss statement, which we can provide to serious potential buyers. There is room to trim expenses a little further. Profit margin after COGS is about 60%-65%. Note that while Shopify required a value for warehousing costs, the inventory is stored in Carl's home so we don't actually pay for this. Sharp drop in revenue and traffic coincides with our takeover of the business.
