Why this business was started
After travelling Thailand for 4 weeks I noticed how popular the jewellery stands were at the local night markets. A majority of people looking at it and buying were Australian tourists. This made me think "Why not bring this kind of jewellery to Australia". After conducting some market research and potential competitors I realized it was little to none. In addition, I wanted to start my own eCommerce store to stay away from a 9-5 job and put what I learnt at University into practise.
The reason of selling this business
As hard as the decision was (They say your first business is like your baby) I have managed to prove to myself that I can build a business to a sustainable level from the ground up. In addition, I am planning on moving oversees in the near future so I wont be able to continue operations from Australia.

How to grow this business
There is huge growth potential for Nalu Jewels in the coming years. Firstly, with cash injection the current marketing (which is already seeing a monthly ROI of 3-4X) can be scaled up. Currently, the brand/revenue are growing consistently by reinvesting into the business. Secondly, there is a lot of potential to get into retail stores. As the profit margin on the jewellery is so high, it's possible to offer a 50% off wholesale price and still earn a great profit especially when selling the units in mass. This also means repeat orders from retailers. Currently, around 85% of revenue is from Australia. There is of course the opportunity to expand worldwide.
Skills to have
As the business has been well established the last 3.5 years it does not take any specific skills or knowledge to run. The foundation has been built and now its just a matter of growing it. However, certain skills/knowledge would be beneficial but can also be outsourced:
- Digital marketing experience (Facebook ads manager, Google ads, Facebook page, Instagram page etc)
- Content creation (taking photos/editing)
- Experience using the Shopify platform
- Knowledge of retail/fashion industry to see emerging trends in jewellery etc
