Why this business was started
Myself and my partner decided to start the business after being successful with two large drop shipping stores that ended up giving us the capital to start this business. Both of our previous stores were in the pet niche and did very well and it encouraged us to create something bigger. There is a huge demand after lockdown for pet products, are customers spend a significant amount of money on their pets. The niche is huge and there is scope to start your own lines of products, especially with our branding as it is very modern and fun.
The reason of selling this business
We decided to sell purely due to recently changes in my family life. We already run a local business (shop in our city) and having this on top is too much for us to manage now. This has been our baby for the last 6-8 months, and we wish we could continue as the scope is huge, and the niche is something we are both passionate about. We merely want to make some money back for the time invested. We've spent countless hours on this brand from arranging the storage unit with all the 2700+ SKU's, to arranging a website with over 750 products. To get it to where it is now, it has taken hundreds of hours and it is completely ready to start increasing sales month by month. We've spent around £1000 on SEO & blog article writing, £1000 on web development. Our domain was a premium domain which cost us £3000.
What's involved in running this business
We hold stock down in a storage unit in Rotherham area and it would involve going down to ship orders. It would involve minimal customer support, email marketing, potentially running some Google / FB / TikTok ads (if you want to, can be contracted out). Running shopify and adding more products. All of our products come from mainly 1 supplier (90% of products) with a couple of other small suppliers. We have 350 sqft unit where we hold all the stock so it would require somebody for a 30 minutes to a hour per day to ship orders.

How to grow this business
This brand would require an initial investment of roughly £10,000 to purchase stock. We already have the proof of concept, with our first month May sales being £4,000+ (30% margins) and June is on track to turn over £9,000 (35% margins). We are purely selling through Shopify, eBay and email marking our subscribers along with a low spend on Google Shopping. We are now acquiring a lot of return custom.
I would in the next year curate a massive range of dog products and brands that people love. Once this as been addressed, I would start then to focus on a range of cat product and then look into other animals. Dog and cat will make up 80% of the sales, therefore I would put your efforts into these two pets. We visioned Nest Pets to be the ASOS of pet supplies. We visioned it to encompass a range of designer dog products which we have already started to build. We would continue to grow our email list - we already have over 9000 from all the ads we ran before we launched, promoting our giveaway. This also give us an initial 6000 followers on Instagram and around 1000 on Facebook.
Skills to have
You should have knowledge of Shopify and how to deal with a store that has a large range of products. Ensuring SKU's, barcodes etc are up to date (which they currently are), as well as stock management (these tasks take around a hour or two per week). Knowledge of ads would be a bonus, however we have a small team running our Google ads (with a small budget so far), which is already starting to work without much data.
