Why this business was started

While I was working as employee in aviation for already 20 years, I started to think about making money with an own business in the e-commerce category. The reason for e-commerce was the simple way to start it (no big invests and no long-term education required before startup). So I informed myself in the internet and found the dropshipping as best solution for me. It seemed like a serious and safe way to earn money because you sell products to your customers which you don't have to buy before, and the customers pay for it when placing their order. Simple and serious. When the COVID crisis started in Europe, it made me to decide to start the business seriously to safe my future by creating additional income with a business which would increase because of the crisis and which was increasing the years before already. So there was already a boom to shop online, and by the COVID rules which made the people to stay at home, the boom was going on. I informed me a lot about dropshipping and did a coaching for 6 months to guarantee my success.

The reason of selling this business

Since aviation was starting up again, I couldn't spend as much time as required for my business anymore. I had to work in my employee-position again and my budget was too low to continue the business. If there are products which have a good marketing-performance, you need enough budget for keep the thing running (ads-campaigns, purchase products, time-delayed receiving cash from customer payments). So I couldn't continue to run the business anymore. Additional personal troubles with Facebook made me to quit the business. But there are a lot of satisfied customers with a high level of trust to my brand ORDER24SEVEN in the niche "Pets" and there is also a product which is a big winner every year again, so it would make sense to continue with the brand. Of course it would make sense to find some other winning products to make the business more constant. There are some more products in the shop which are ordered via an upsell or by returning customers of course.

What's involved in running this business

At the time I sourced out the fulfillment to an Chinese agent, before I used a fulfillment-service (full automatic by an app). Invoices are created and sent to the customers automatically by an app. Accounting and communication and reporting to the authorities are sourced out to a tax consultant which can download the exports from that app. So the things I have to do myself in daily intervalls are: customer support by answering issues via e-mail, checking the performance of the ads-campaigns by analyzing the KPI's, reacting accordingly and creating new campaigns and new ads-tactiques, communication with agent, research for new products, payment of invoices and collecting of invoices and accounting-relevant documents. Every month those documents have to be forwarded to tax consultant. That takes me at about 4-5 hours per day. If there is a new product there is additional work like creating the website and the ads incl. editing pictures and videos. Possible jobs to source out: customer-support, creating videos for the ads, research for new products

Other details about profit: Because of bad luck and misunderstandings at the beginning there have been serious troubles with Facebook during startup which caused several months of stopped advertising. So the orders, the revenue and the profit was produced in approximately 8 months only. Between those profitable months there were periods of no income. That made the budget for keeping the business running very low. But when advertising was active, the sales were really good for the little budget for advertising! Because of the my low available budget there was no way for increasing the revenue or the orders/day. The ads-campaigns were kept on the minimum daily budget of 50$/day for each campaign or product. Also the invoices for product-purchases had to be kept on a low level because of the low available budget. By the availability of a higher budget the revenue and the orders/day could be increased to 10x for sure!
