Why this business was started
I was looking for a business to buy and ran across a bird business. I mentioned it to my daughter who wanted me to buy it but I told her we could build it better than that one. And we did. :) I was looking for something in home goods and have since found it so I'm buried now.
The reason of selling this business
I have 3 other businesses so I just don't have time. And my daughter - teenager style - moved on so I lost my passion partner.
What's involved in running this business
As much or little as you want. I literally do nothing right now except manage orders when they come in which is why I get very few orders but if someone advertised you could really make some money. Bird cages will sell for anywhere from $500 to 10,000 and profit margin is generally 50% so you don't have to sell many to make some money. Also fewer transactions = fewer customer service issues. I don't even have a phone number - just email (for all my online stores) so I have a lot of flexibility.

How to grow this business
Advertising - social media specifically but search and remarketing would be great too. Add more content to the site in the blog to address FAQs by bird owners and draw some organic traffic to the site.
Skills to have
It'd be helpful if you had an interest in birds as pets so you could write content (although you could outsource this easily) but if you're a good digital advertiser, I don't even think that is necessary. Obviously an understanding / comfort level with updating websites using a CMS (Shopify even better) would enable you to hit the ground running. Basic marketing experience would be good to have so you can apply to email/sms/website/ads etc.
