Business Story

Why this business was started

I began my business in 2008 when the economy was not doing well, and I wanted to help out a little with our money. My business has done extremely well, and has been stable, even when the economy has not been at its best. I love to design and create new products, and found that I had a talent for this, and my customers loved my products.

The reason of selling this business

The main reason that I would like to sell my business is that I would like to spend more time with my children. I homeschool my kids, besides running my business and taking care of my home, and would just like to have a little more time. It is still going great, but I want to become a stay at home mom.

What's involved in running this business

Depending on how you choose to run this business, will decide on how it is run. I have a registered trademark for my brand, and my website is established with a large customer base. We have an extremely high return customer rate.
Options for a new owner running this are: Run it similar to what I do, by designing items, taking photos, and listing new items. I have several people sew the items for me and also do the shipping, so you would need to find people to accomplish this. I have found that it is not hard to find people to work. Speed must be considered when having people work for you, since they must produce the items quickly. I have the people who do the work for me, working as subcontractors, and I give them a 1099 at the end of the year. I personally only do the designing, photos, and listings, and making all the decisions.
The other option is to used my established business name and website with my customer list and get items that are already made and list them. I have a very large email list, many Facebook followers and also Pinterest followers.

    Seller‘s Advice

    How to grow this business

This business could easily grow with more social involvement online, and also more paid marketing. I do very little with that aspect currently, so it is much an untapped option for growth.

    Skills to have

If you decide to run this business the same way that I have, you should know how to design new items using the patterns that I have created, taking photos and listing the items, or hiring people who know how to do those things. This business could also be changed to carrying more pre-made inventory, purchased from suppliers. Shopify makes it easy to do the computer end of the work, so mostly anyone can do that.

My name is Kristy, I began my business in 2008. What started as just a way to help my family with a little additional money, quickly turned into a very good business. I started by designing dog clothing for small dogs, and making them all myself. When everything I created started selling so well, I hired some subcontractors to help me fulfill all of the orders that were coming in. I have four children, and am married, and want to back away from working now. My business is very well established, and can go very far.

The revenue and traffic data that you see on each listing is pulled directly from its Shopify account. This means that the data has been verified. Exchange reviews and monitors listings for thorough and accurate information.

    Secure messaging platform

You will be able to communicate with sellers via a secure messaging platform. After you log in and request information from a listing, sellers are notified and have the ability to respond. When you are ready, you can make an offer.

    Encrypted payment capture

Exchange and Escrow.com have partnered together to provide you with safe transactions that have bank encryption, making sure that payment is securely captured. Escrow.com ensures that its users pass verification checks before transactions can proceed.

Take time to inspect the business

Once you submit payment to Escrow.com and the payment has been secured, the funds are held until you confirm that all assets received are as negotiated. You can use the inspection period to ask the seller any extra questions about the business.

    Safe store transfer

When the transaction is finalized, the dedicated migration team at Exchange will begin the process of making you the new owner of the store. Buyers and sellers will be notified via an email from the Exchange team once store transfers have been completed.
