Why this business was started
I wanted to create something of my own and watch it either bloom or crash and burn. I've spend my entire life striving to create something with and for someone else. This business is 100% my mine. I honesty wanted to see what I was truly made of. I wanted to know if I was able to confront my fear of failure in the face and still take that leap forward. We women are nurturers. We take care of Everyone. Sometimes to the detriment of ourselves. I wanted to create a space where women can come and find what they need to feel happy and beautiful. There is so much positive and encouraging commentary out there telling us to just be happy with the way you are. That’s nice and all but sometimes we just want to pamper ourselves and find products that help us feel more beautiful. Therefore, I chose to step out of my comfort zone, faced my fears, and started a business alone.
The reason of selling this business
I am a full time middle school teacher. My workload has expanded considerably since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. I've spent countless hours converting curriculum to an all digital format and teach exclusively online 7 hours a day (and this doesn't cover the 2-3 hours of online planning, meetings, conferences, etc.). I no longer have the drive, time, or energy to spend an additional 2-3 hours a day staring at a computer screen. When I was able to dedicate 15-20 hours per week to this business my revenue skyrocketed. I was able to achieve $5k-$15K per month. But during this past year there were some months where I just allowed everything to run with little to no effort and my revenue came from repeat customers and organic traffic. I was able to produce $500- $4k per month. I can continue this way until things return to "normal". I spend 5 hours or less per week and am still making a profit , but that is no way to run a business. I have put in all of the upfront work. Everything that is needed to make this business soar is already available, but it is missing someone that has the drive, motivation, and time to make it ultra successful. Please dedicate 15-20 hours per week to achieve those results.
What's involved in running this business
The first thing involved with this business is researching product niches. I've found a product that works well, but there are always other options that may work better than the current one. I use the data provided by Shopify to help me cater to my customer's buying habits. The next most important thing is running advertising campaigns. Typical customers do not spend much time browsing the store. Therefore, the ads are important to get them to the products you want to sell. Then create little pop up ads for upselling complementary products. Then, fulfilling orders in a timely manner essential. There are apps available to automatically complete this task or you can save a little money and fulfill the orders yourself. This task requires patience and great attention to detail. For example, you must make sure to send purchased items to the shipping address and not the billing address. And lastly, communicating with customers promptly and appropriately will go a long way. Most customers prefer to communicate through email or text, but some would rather a phone call. Get a Google Voice number and talk to those customers who need it. I've been able to put out many fires and create return customers with a simple telephone conversation.

How to grow this business
I initially created more of a general store that leaned towards female customers. There was a wide range of items from toys, baby clothes, cooking and baking utensils, and electronic gadgets. Then I noticed that 90% of the customers focused heavily on beauty products for skin, hair, and nails. That's when the store became less general and more niche. Over the next 5 years I would continue to test and market products that compliment each other in One of those three categories (skin, hair, nails). For example, I am partial to nails. I began a campaign in October for nail care. It consisted of one main product and a few upsells. It inched along slowly for several weeks but by mid November it took off. The data then showed that customers were returning for the upsell products after their initial purchase. The goal is to get customers to return over and over. Continue to maintain products in all 3 categories, but focus on 1 moderately priced product that customers will regularly need OR have 1 awesome but aggressively priced initial product that customers will have to return for the complimentary items. You will need to find your own suppliers for the products.
