Why this business was started

We love the pet industry and we have another online business that is a luxury pet fashion brand. 'Peckish Pet' was a perfect extension to our existing pet fashion business so we can start selling pet food and drive more traffic past our existing store. The idea with 'Peckish Pet' was to stock our own pet brand and the opportunity to cross sell our pet products to customers visiting our site to purchase pet food.

The reason of selling this business

'Peckish Pet' is one of the businesses that was born over the Covid period. Unfortunately, I never got the opportunity to see 'Peckish Pet' through as a business as my other business absorbed all my time and energy completely! We have therefore decided to sell 'Peckish Pet' as is (business name, domain and digital content) to someone looking to get into the online pet shop business but doesn't have the time and skills to built an attractive website.

What's involved in running this business

Carrying your own stock will be the more expensive option compared to the dropshipping model, but it will offer you as a business a smaller room for error as you will be 100% in control of your business operations in terms of stock going in and out. The online platform is automated and takes care of the transactions between you and your customer automatically and provides you with a sales order to fulfill. When it comes to fulfilment, the attention to detail in your back of house operations will determine how popular you will be with your customers and if they will return again because you offer a good product and great customer service. The online pet industry has proven over and over again that there is always good money to be made, especially when you are selling consumable pet products. Selling consumables creates a platform where customers return on a monthly basis to purchase their favorite pet food and this opens the door for a pet food subscription model. On 'Peckish Pet' we refer to this option as the 'Petscription' where you can offer your customers a recurring pet food service. Depending on your own business strategy, one can either dive in and run the online shop as you would a physical shop, by putting up a small storage facility and carrying physical stock, or you can choose to list products from other suppliers and run this business on a dropshipping basis. On the dropshipping business model you will require fulfilment partners in key regions that will be able to deliver pet food as customers place orders on your 'Peckish Pet' online store (With this option you will have no need for warehousing and the no need for product stock).
