Why this business was started
I decided to start this business as was bored during lockdown and thought I could learn a new skill and came across dropshipping. After watching a few youtube videos, it started to seem feasible for me and decided to just give it a go and see how it goes. Alongside studying medicine, I have a strong passion in entrepreneurship and interested in creating passive income. I started this to create an additional source of income alongside my education.
Over the past few years I've spent a lot of time studying for medicine exams and sitting on a desk and noticed that my posture isn't very good and was starting to cause neck pain. I figured that a lot of people will have this problem over lockdown due working remotely and I started to research products that would help fix my posture. I came across a posture corrector brace, that can be worn very easily just like a vest and it is a fairly cheap product. I ordered one for myself and after wearing one for a week, my posture felt much improved and healthier. I decided that this was a great problem solving product, made a video ad of me wearing it whilst carrying out different activities and launched the store!
The reason of selling this business
I have decided to sell this business as I am extremely busy with medical school and do not have much time to focus on this business anymore. Alongside spending majority of my time within hospitals, I also have other major passions involving societies, teaching and medical technology entrepreneurship which I am currently pursuing. Furthermore, I am a student and do not have a source of income to rely on so I find it really difficult to invest large amounts of money into this business. Therefore the shop has been progressing very slowly. From this business, I have learnt a lot of knowledge and skills and I know that if I had more time for this I can definitely scale it up internationally and make good money from this. However, this requires more time and money to optimise and scale up the marketing.
What's involved in running this business
I have been using google ads and facebook ads to generate traffic to the website. Google ads is based on relevant keywords around posture corrector and for Facebook, I have created a short 15-20 second video ad of myself wearing it whilst carrying out different activities such as studying, gaming, exercising etc. Just to clarify that I will be deleting this video as I no longer want to be associated with the store but I can help you generate video ad ideas! Running the advertising campaigns will be the most important aspect of this business as it is important to get a lot of traffic to the website in the first place. To convert this traffic into sales, the website has high quality photos and more information about the posture corrector such as how to wear, when results are visible, why they need one etc. Furthermore, there are lots of positive reviews available left by customers about the product to build trust and see the impact of a posture corrector for themselves. Also to convert more sales, I have provided a free eBook about improving their posture and workstation, that they can download when they complete their order from the website. Fulfilling orders is very simple as this is carried out using Oberlo, which inputs the buyer's order information onto Aliexpress, where I just have to confirm my payment details and it is shipped straight to them by the supplier. The products have always reached the customers, you will not have to worry about anything once the product has been paid for. As the product is shipped from China, it can take up to 2-3 weeks, which is a long time but customers are happy to wait providing that you are upfront and honest about the waiting times. To attain repeat customers, I have previously sent 20% off discount codes to all email subscribers as part of the mailing list. The store has been completely focused on one product so far, I have tried to add in a massage gun to increase profits but have found this difficult to market as it is quite an expensive product and so for the time being I have mainly stuck to the posture corrector. Although with more time, this can definitely be looked into for creating more profit.

How to grow this business
My efforts to grow the store have been minimal due to a lack of money and time and has therefore been slow mainly. Furthermore, it has taken my a while to understand how facebook and google ads work in the first place as this was my very first time using them, so I have ended up wasting some money on them. However, over the next few months I would try to create a few different facebook campaigns using a professional and unique video ad. Once a successful facebook campaign has been found and works, I would make the business international and target the other big countries to scale up further. Furthermore, I wanted to add some more health products such as yoga mats, foam rollers etc and make this business about overall health and not just posture correctors.
Skills to have
Some marketing skills would be ideal, or at least be willing to learn. Having some experience with Facebook and Google ads, would help massively in helping to scale up this business, it is something I have struggled with as I have just learnt about marketing with this business for the first time. Some video editing and photography knowledge would help in taking photos and videos to create new original and unique ads to differentiate yourself from the competition and attract customers.
