Why this business was started

I saw a niche in the fire safety market that wasn’t being exploited and decided to start Premier fire doors around 12 years ago. In addition, there is a developing market and huge opportunity following on from the tragic UK Grenfell tower fire in 2017 and consequential changes to the UK’s fire regulations including fire door provisions.

The reason of selling this business

I am now developing an on-line business in the fantasy gaming market. The majority of my time is taken up with that project. I also run a fire safety company called Active Fire Safety Solutions Ltd

What's involved in running this business

Daily taking and managing on-line and off-line orders, approximately 4-6 hours per day, but this could be reduced if systems were streamlined and more automation provided. This includes forwarding customers orders to supplier for this to be fulfilled and delivered, for most orders contact with specialist delivery company to organise logistics from supplier depot. All products are manufactured and readily available from suppliers in the UK. There is very little website maintenance, except managing products. We work with an agency to manage Google Ads. We have a sales contractor to fulfil orders.

    How to grow this business

    To take the store to the next level, I would ‘on sell’ other related fire door products such as hold open door devices, door ironmongery such as handles, hinges, seals and offer fire door ironmongery packs and also on-sell frames. In addition you could find alternative manufacturers and search for better prices, same with couriers, we use one in particular when we need them, but not a lot of investigation has been done to reduce these costs, so there is plenty of room for development.

    Skills to have

    An understanding of the fire door market and background to the legal requirements in the UK for fire doors. All this will be given in a two month support package before you take on the store, we will make sure you are fully trained, but it isn’t difficult, once you get the hang of it.

    We use Google Ads advertising and we can provide you a contact to manage this for you as we outsource this at present. We use Shopify as our CRM system but also have an internal system call workflow that links with our financial package Xero.
