Retro Velo is a cycling clothing company. I love cycling, and cycling is on the rise! The increasing popularity of cycling as a recreational sport means there are more enthusiastic buyers out there looking for cycling clothing, so the market is expanding, especially for products that tell a unique story.
Cyclists often look for strong brand stories and unique clothing, so Retro-Velo combines these. Cycling culture is often about being 'tough' so I liked the idea of translating the old-fashioned retro toughness into a modern context. It's a story that resonates.
Cycling clothing is also small, light and easy to ship. Plus, when you do an order, the stock doesn't need a lot of storage space - I keep it in my cupboard at home!
The reason of selling this business
I have a full-time job and a family, which unfortunately takes up most of my time. I was passionate about this when it first started, so a lot of work went into the design and brand, but unfortunately I have become too busy with my other work. There is a lot of value in this business, it just needs some attention. I haven't put much effort into marketing the products, so there is a lot of untapped potential, even if you just start with the basics. I'm just hoping to sell for the cost of the inventory.

How to grow this business
I would start putting some effort into marketing and advertising. My first ideas are: online ads, SEO, direct email marketing, product photo shoots, develop social media, tap into some community groups and find some brand ambassadors.
Skills to have
The owner should be interested in cycling, especially road cycling. They should know something about cycling communities/groups to leverage the brand further. The brand story has strong Australian references, so there should be understanding of this. This doesn't mean you can only sell in Australia; other countries could be very interested in this Australian angle. Alternatively, you could get rid of the Australian angle altogether.
