General description

Seashore No4 was set up in 2015 as an enterprise to help my son, who has autism. The idea was that he could have a business to run once he left school. We chose a nautical / coastal living theme and worked hard to develop a brand and customer base. Selecting quality products that reflected our theme of coastal living. Our social media comprises of posts about the coast, sea life and coastal living design, giving a positive, uplifted image. In 2017 I was nominated and shortlisted for two business awards, one for Online Mum of the Year - Bizmums and the other in the Start Up Business of the year with First Ladies. Through business to business networking with Seashore No4, I met a children's author and my son and her have since collaborated on writing and illustrating a book together. It was published in April 2018 and a second book is due April 2019. My son feels he would now rather continue with the books, rather that the online store. My 'why' for creating and developing Seashore No4 has now changed significantly and although I have enjoyed the business and purchasing products and engaging with customers, my time is now limited as I support my son with his book business.

Why should someone buy this store?

This is a well developed store with good relationships with both suppliers and dropship suppliers. There is a large social media following that has been grown organically (Facebook 3956 followers, Instagram 1244 followers, 277 followers, Pinterest 1219 Average monthly viewers). The store is fully optimised for Search Engine Optimisation per product and research using SEM Rush and Shopify data has been utilised to develop this. The store also using the valuable, and free Kit resource from Shopify that gives you daily data on sales, trends and options for setting up ads and email campaigns. Kit is incredibly easy to use and a great asset to the business. It has Google Analytics established and Facebook Business Advertising all set up and blogs published. There is a feel good factor about the store and it would suit someone looking to develop a part-time income around raising a family. The hard work of establishing a brand, social media followers and the trial and error of what does and doesn't sell has already been carried out. Although I am not promoting the products at present, it is basically ready to go.

How can the future owner improve the business?

There is still plenty of scope for the business to be developed and grown. Lots of new trends to be explored and added, to the taste of a new owner. Christmas is a particular popular time with customers looking for unusual coastal living gifts and decorations.

What work have you put into the store?

Since 2015 I have worked part time on Seashore No4. Christmas is a very busy time, but I still managed to maintain a part-time working around a family. I have optimised the store, (SEO), taken photographs, designed ads, developed a customer network, used analytics to improve performance and developed the business.

I work with my husband in our electrical contracting business in an administrative role and have do so for 17 years! I have a BA (Hons) Degree in Home Economics and worked in product development in the food industry for 10 years prior to having my children.
