Business Story

Why this business was started

We were looking for secondary income source and knew friends that were having great success in this industry. We were able to build a profitable store, however it is much more consuming than we expected. Shopify stores offer a great way to have a side business or main business to provide income for you or your family.

The reason of selling this business

What is required is more than we can handle at this stage of life with 3 kids. I started this store as a way to generate some extra income for our family, although it did so very well, I feel like I am unable to give it the attention it deserves. I will most likely do more ecommerce in the future.

What's involved in running this business

Order fulfilling we used Oberlo which made autofilling information easy. Customer inquiries and responding to emails about tracking information and order questions. Updating products and keeping products fresh and testing new products on the store. A huge part of running this business is generating traffic to the store through facebook ads or whichever means you prefer. We used Facebook ads and saw some great success.

Other details about profit: All sales are from our shopify store only. Our best month we did $17,000 in sales and we had our 3rd child after that month. We have not run a single ad since the beginning of May and have been doing around $1,000 per month in residual sales. These numbers are reflected in the big drop off in sales and traffic to our store.

Becoming more branded in our approach. We started out pretty general and found the mother/baby niche worked for us since we could test products ourselves and make marketing material for our own products as we use them.

    Skills to have

We are a mother and baby store that came from our state of life of having 3 kids ourselves. These are products that are entertaining, comforting, and practical to use. My wife and I both run the store and share responsibilities.

    Why use Exchange?

Exchange is the largest and fastest-growing marketplace for Shopify e-commerce stores

    Verified listing data

The revenue and traffic data that you see on each listing is pulled directly from its Shopify account. This means that the data has been verified. Exchange reviews and monitors listings for thorough and accurate information.

    Secure messaging platform

You will be able to communicate with sellers via a secure messaging platform. After you log in and request information from a listing, sellers are notified and have the ability to respond. When you are ready, you can make an offer.

    Encrypted payment capture

Exchange and Escrow.com have partnered together to provide you with safe transactions that have bank encryption, making sure that payment is securely captured. Escrow.com ensures that its users pass verification checks before transactions can proceed.

Take time to inspect the business

Once you submit payment to Escrow.com and the payment has been secured, the funds are held until you confirm that all assets received are as negotiated. You can use the inspection period to ask the seller any extra questions about the business.

    Safe store transfer

When the transaction is finalized, the dedicated migration team at Exchange will begin the process of making you the new owner of the store. Buyers and sellers will be notified via an email from the Exchange team once store transfers have been completed.

Once you log into your Shopify account for the first time and choose a subscription plan, Shopify Support Gurus are available 24/7 to help you with the settings of the store.
