Shutter Bombs was founded in 2017, our goal was simple... Build a quality brand that sells quality smoke bombs for content creators. We aren't just selling smoke bombs here, we're building community.
Shutter Bombs shipped its first order in February 2017 and started to run ad campaigns and scale in March of 2017. Since then the store has grown 20% per month and has generated over $30,000 in revenue. The store started out as a project for my college class and grew significantly. I am getting ready to start school again and I am also juggling two other start-up's that peak my interest more than than Shutter Bombs.
Financials and traffic
Profits could be increased if free shipping was not offered, also if the proper steps were taken to ship through FedEx profits could be increased. These profits are measured from us shipping inventory we purchase, we also have a drop shipping partner if you are not interested in shipping orders your self. Our bombs sell for $11.99 each and we purchase them for $3.00 each.

(ie. Adwords, Facebook ads, etc.)
We have a large amount of inventory right now purchased at the cheapest whole sale value in the US. We also have a drop shipping partner if you are not interested in shipping orders.
Shutter Bombs is a great business. Smoke bomb photography has been around for a few years now but there has never been a reliable supplier for the smoke bombs, we filled that need. There is still very little competition in the space and are one of the only competitors that has built a solid brand and relationship with our customers.
How can the future owner improve the business?
Shutter Bombs has a ton of room scale. I have very little knowledge about Shopify and online marketing. Currently we only advertise on Google Adwords and small Facebook/Instagram campaigns here and there. If this store was taken over by someone who knows how to build out a good website/product page and also target ads more accurately than myself this store would really take off... I've built this store to what it is with very little knowledge in online advertising and ecommerce sales.
I also believe more sales channels would be huge difference in this store. Setting up Shutter Bombs with Google Shopping and Amazon could make a huge difference, we just haven't been able to figure it out
Overall, a makeover of the website, more accurate ad targeting, moving away from Google Adwords and moving into Facebook ads, and adding more sales channels would completely transform this store.
What work have you put into the store?
I have done all of the work with the store including building the website, social media accounts, establishing partnerships, public relations, packaging orders, shipping orders, creating marketing content. This store has been a one man show.
How many hours does it take to run this business per week?
I am going into my senior year at the University of New Mexico. I have started two companies in college Shutter Bombs and also a software company named Pencil-In. I have also joined a start up named Lens which will be doing a lot of collaboration with Pencil-In and that is currently where I want to place my concentration.
