Why this business was started

I started this business as I saw the demand. Online community of gray hair women is growing and my merch helps them to feel connected and beautiful . I created designs to help women feel that they are not alone in it. To help them survive those few tough months and to help them feel beautiful.

The reason of selling this business

I simply lost interest in it. I used to be very active in community of "Silver sisters" - as the women who are growing grey/silver hair call themselves. But overtime my interests changed and it doesn't excite me anymore. I stopped working with influencers and creating new designs, and the shop was running on autopilot for the past several months.

What's involved in running this business

Once the order is placed, it is automatically fulfilled by Printify. All emails about the order confirmation, shipping and tracking numbers are generated automatically too.

Here is what I do to maintain the business: - Posting content on social media. I post on Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook. Some of our content is user-generated: customers send pictures of them wearing our shirts, or tag us on social media. Some content is reposted images from other pro-aging or silver-haired communities. And sometimes we receive images of ladies who want to share their transition story. - Checking mailbox and resolving any customer support issues. Requests for refunds are rare. It happens once every few months.

Optional: I used to create and test new t-shirt designs every 3-6 month. Now we have a few best-sellers and creating new designs is not necessary. I used to sent free t-shirt to influencers in exchange for images and brand exposure.

I worked with 2 POD providers: Printful (from July 2019 to February 2021) and Printify (from March 2021 till now). With Printful the profit was around 25% With Printify the profit is about 43%.

After moving to Printify here is the costs breakdown (From March 2021 till now). Average sales: $1292 Average costs: (printing costs, email, Shopify plan, Shopify fees and any refunds) $727 Average profit: $565 Average profit: 43%

    How to grow this business

    I would invest in building relationship with influencers. There is a large community of influencers, who do not color their hair and when I started the shop I worked with them, and that helped to kick start sales.

    Working with influencers require time and budget, but it can be very profitable. And you do not have to look for influencers on your own. All of them are following our Instagram page and actively support us.

    If I wanted to grow this store, I would invest in a third party app to set-up affiliate program and keep track of ambassador affiliate links and create some incentives system for them to promote our apparel.

    Skills to have

    It is possible to run this store without any specific skills, because I'm not a designer, IT genius, or marketing pro. Here is what good to have: - General knowledge of Shopify. - Understanding how POD business works. Experience working with Printify or Printful. If you don't have experience, it's ok, it's very simple. - Having some Photoshop skills would be great, then you can create your own designs or edit existing designs. I don't have designer skills and I don't use photoshop. I outsourced all designs to freelance designers. - Experience with Social media, in particularly Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook. - Experience with handling customer support issues.
