Business Story

Why this business was started

We decided to start this business to create a platform in giving self-help advice to those suffering from anxiety and depression. We started out with our blog in expressing the struggles we have be through in life and how we overcame them, while giving helpful tips to others who might be going through the same thing. Simple dude apparel was created around the inspiration of the pacific northwest, as well as being comfortable and affordable. Our vision was to create an empowering message and program for mental health awareness throughout communities. With Simple Dude, we wanted to expand the idea of living life with simplicity. My personal story: I spent my 23rd birthday in the hospital laying in a bed hooked up to machines that were keeping me alive. For months I had time to think about my life, my purpose and those around me. There were a number of people who impacted me during those months. Gave me hope and care that somehow I wanted to repay. Years later, I had the idea of Simple Dude. It was an idea that could potentially give me the resources to give to others less fortunate than me. Through my struggle to regain health and my sanity, I had to learn how to walk, talk and breath on my own again. I faced depression, anxiety and anger that lasted for years after. I realized the only way I could get better was if I did something about it. So I researched and researched, at times it was hard to find answers, but I found them. After more years of practice, I utilized what I had learned to the fullest and I felt that I needed to share it with as many people as I could who may be going through what I went through, how to overcome many different obstacles from depression and anxiety to feelings of inadequacy. That's when Simple Dude got started; a platform to share my ideas, trials and tribulations. I truly believe in this brand, where it could go and what it could become for millions of people around the world. We all have a story, a past and pain. But for some of us it is hard to find help, or ask for it. I wanted Simple Dude to make the answer simple, to provide simple techniques in aiding the inner war we fight on a daily basis. I believe that someone with the right knowledge can extend this message with unlimited potential. Simple Dude.

The reason of selling this business

The main reason we have decided to sell is because we don't have the finances to fund capitol and expenses in having more merchandise on hand to sell directly. Finances to keep running the business has been extremely low. We do want this brand to succeed and feel that in the right hands, it will. We also haven't been able to dedicate as much time needed to grow this business.

What's involved in running this business

The involvement in running this business requires design of each product, quality control, resourcing product (currently doing drop shipping) marketing (currently have a Facebook page and Instagram account), word of mouth, photography, making contacts throughout the community (in surrounding areas and online), and pitching product to local stores. Since we had been doing drop-shipping, packaging and shipping the product was not included in day to day operations. Packaging and shipping goods would be needed in a store. Traveling to trade shows and fairs would be ideal in running this business. Currently there are two of us running the business.

Seller‘s Advice

How to grow this business

We would downsize the brand a bit, from shirts, hoodies, beans and hats to just beanies and hats. We would change our approach in helping others with creating a program for the homeless around our community. We really believe in not only creating a business that provides a quality product or service, but to give back to those in need in any way. In the program we wanted to create for the homeless would be to give a beanie for every beanie sold to a homeless person in need. Eventually we would have had beanies, backpacks, blankets, water bottles and food to send "packages" to homeless shelters. 10% of our profits would also be donated to homeless shelters. Each year we would attend trade shows and local fairs to spread brand awareness, as well as pitch to other local apparel companies in supporting our cause. Our goal after 2-3 years would be to open a store front possibly, or a manufacturing company to help with production.

Skills to have

The new owners should have skills in marketing, communications, merchandise sourcing and a great vision for this brand. Skills in commuications with communities to spread brand awareness as well as pitching to potential retailers and accounts.

Running this business for about 1 year
Most of my story is in details of why I started this business. I whole heartedly believe that this business would be a great investment for anyone who is passionate about helping others. All I could ask for is for the vision of Simple Dude to come to life.
