Why this business was started

After leaving the Army in 2006, I started my first business and I failed miserably. From there on I worked in various different industries but was always frustrated working for other people. I started this business because I wanted to break away from my day job and work for myself full time one again. This was my first store and it worked so well that I was able to quit my job and now work full time in e-commerce.

The reason of selling this business

I started this store after taking a couple of e-commerce courses and to test my knowledge and capabilities. While it worked so well I was able to quit my job, I had other ideas for stores that I wanted to try out. I'm currently running three stores and just don't have the time or resources to keep up with testing new products and scaling/running the ads on this one.

What's involved in running this business

I've set up this store to be automated as much as possible through a bulk order fulfillment app (included free with the shopify subscription with no monthly charges). You'll spend most of your time answering customer emails, fulfilling orders, and running your ads. To keep the business profitable, you'll also want to add new products and test/scale them in new ads.

Other details about profit: The vast majority of profits came over the summer when I was actively running ads and decreased as I was starting up my other stores. I'm currently running minimal ads and still have a small profit coming in monthly.

    How to grow this business

    I would branch out into different marketing streams such as instagram, youtube, and google ads. Since I've only used FB ads for my advertising, this is a great way to boost sales. I would also add new products that are related to the niche to target more mainstream customers. A new Facebook page will need to be made for the store and this will allow you to build it according to your vision.

    Skills to have

    Basic knowledge of how shopify works as well as at a minimum understanding how to test products and scale ads through facebook. Because this store is heavily automated the majority of your time will be spent answering emails and maintaining ads.
