Why this business was started
I am a dedicated vegan/green activist and wanted to create a store which catered to customers looking to shop secure in the knowledge that all of the items in it were sourced and created in a green, vegan, fair trade and eco-friendly manner. (Often you have to check item details one at a time in an online store.) I created the slogan "Shop with a Clear Conscience" to communicate this message in a nutshell!
The reason of selling this business
I run other e-commerce shops and unfortunately have less time to upkeep this shop now, which is why I am selling it. It is doing really well but I don't have the time and could really use the extra funds right now to purchase inventory for my other apparel shop. I'd love to do it all, but to accomplish everything I'd just have to hire more staff which defeats the purpose really. I have been really bad at posting on social media, so ramping up posting on those channels would really boost business!
What's involved in running this business
In order to generate traffic, as with all stores, you will need to place some ads. I have been using Google, Facebook and Microsoft Advertising. I use the Shopify email app to send emails and I post on Facebook and Instagram.
It would be useful to keep up to date on current trends in green lifestyles in order to source and add products which will be appealing to this market.
I use the Smile rewards program app on Shopify to drive customer loyalty and the Upsell recommendations app to cross and upsell on the website.

How to grow this business
Advertising on Facebook, Bing and Google have really brought a lot of customers to this shop, as gearing your ads to this target market is really easy to do (advertise to people whose concerns are green living, sustainable lifestyles, veganism, etc.)
Currently it is drop-shipping only, however you could easily purchase inventory and ship from a fulfilment center, if you wanted to scale up. This is what I would have done if I kept the store.

You should have a working knowledge of how to run a Shopify store. Also knowledge of basic marketing practices on Google and Facebook/Instagram and Microsoft Ads. (All of these things can be learnt in a matter of weeks.)
