Why this business was started

I started this store as a side-project as I was looking to get into a new industry and build an online brand. It was also a hobby as I am a Steampunk fan myself so choosing on a niche was easy. Steampunk is a very passionate niche with massive potential for growth. There are plenty of unique products in the apparel, jewelry and clothing line that attract a very passionate audience that LOVES the style. With such a variety of products to offer, opportunities are endless. I have put a lot of work into making this store unique by creating catchy descriptions for nearly 100 products that tell the story of this fun niche and give the store its unique voice.

The reason of selling this business

For me this store has been a side-project and a hobby. At the same time, my main business has been growing rapidly and I am looking to put all of my energy and focus into taking it to the next level. As a result, it is getting harder to manage The Steampunk Cave without hiring additional team members. I have put a lot of work into building this store, styling the pages, optimizing for conversions, search engine optimization, building a social media following, running ads - I really hope the store ends up in good hands.

What's involved in running this business

The store did over 14K in revenue in March 2019 and most of it was done with 1 product that we advertise on Facebook. I will share our ads and dropshipping suppliers we worked with. The main work involved is managing the ads, fulfilling orders, replying to customer emails and maintaining social media presence. I have mainly focused on Facebook and Instagram ads so far, however there is definitely room for expansion with Google search and shopping ads.

Other details about profit: Most of our sales come from Facebook ads and until mid February 2019 we were not running ads consistently. This is why the sales were also inconsistent until that time. Since starting the ads full time, the store has had an above average conversion rate of over 3.3%. Profitability can be improved, it was on a lower side as we did A LOT of ad testing. NO chargebacks received since store launch and hardly any product returns! This is due to working with the best suppliers and putting a lot of emphasis on customer support. The store features a pre- and post-purchase upsell function which works very well and brings consistent additional revenue. The abandoned email and SMS sequence have also been set up and bring extra sales too.

    How to grow this business

    If I was not selling the store, I would start marketing new products via Facebook and Instagram ads as well as putting more focus on Google ads. I would also start growing the Instagram page, which I haven't had time to do. In addition to that, the store has over 900 email subscribers and I haven't done ANY email marketing campaigns so far due to lack of time. Email campaigns can be EXTREMELY effective in generating sales, and this option so far has been untapped with this store.

    No specific skills or knowledge are required, but knowing how to create and manage Facebook/Instagram/Google ad campaigns can help a lot. Additionally, knowing the basics of email marketing would help.
