I decided to start Tin Lizzy because I wanted to make shopping for fair trade and ethically sourced goods easier and more fun in my area. Tin Lizzy is a 1997 Grumman Step Van given a new life as a traveling shop specializing in fair trade, USA made and ethically sourced apparel, accessories and gifts. Tin Lizzy is based out of Annapolis, Maryland and travels all over the Baltimore/DC area setting up shop at festivals, street fairs, private events, home shopping parties, fundraisers, in shopping centers, in conjunction with other businesses, the options are endless!
The reason of selling this business
I am selling Tin Lizzy because we are relocating to Austin, Texas and I made the decision not to relocate the business. I have been operating Tin Lizzy for five years and grown it into a profitable business so it is my hope that someone local will continue on. Mobile retail is a fabulous way for someone to "dip their toes" into retail without committing to high overhead costs or one specific location.
What's involved in running this business
I worked full-time on Tin Lizzy and additionally hired part-time employees to help me at high traffic events and with behind-the-scenes tasks such as photography and tagging. My schedule consists of a five day work week in the truck (Wednesday through Sunday,) as well as additional administrative tasks, March through December with the option for a light schedule in January and February.
This business involves:
-Buying of merchandise weekly along with seasonal collection planning (mostly online- 50+ wholesale accounts and at tradeshows).
-Scheduling events and pop-up locations (permit acquisition- will include, networking- will include contacts).
-Driving the truck to and setting up shop at different events in the DC/Baltimore region.
-Marketing: social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & Pinterest- over 5,000 organically acquired followers) as well as Mail Chimp (1,000+) and some print. Our key demographic is a working millennial or young mother in the suburbs.
-Maintaining the online shop (over 1,500 products uploaded).

I would hire someone to drive the truck and work in-person events more and focus on growing the business online.
