General description

[REDACTED] is a Triathlon Webshop. We sell all things Triathlon - Swimming Biking and running. Our major brands have been Salming Running, Planet X Bikes, Carnac Helmets, Mako Swim gear and wetsuits. Started out by selling Planet X bikes on commission and turned it into a full service triathlon webshop trying to offer customers the best price quality products we could find.

Why should someone buy this store?

Trimate has a name in Sweden and has lots of potential to be a successful webshop at the national level or europe-wide depending on a buyers ambition. When we had two of us in the business we were growing fast and making a big presence in the cycling and triathlon scene. Since taking the business on myself I have been too stretched to continue what we had started. Another note is that our sales were north of a half million in USD before my partner left the business and I decided to slow down operations. New ownership could realistically shoot for over a million USD (or 10 million in SEK) within a few years. The past months I have more or less stopped working with the shop as I have been focussing on a new business venture. With a re-launch and new base of products the shop can be up to several millions per year in sales.

How can the future owner improve the business?

A future owner would focus on accessories and training gear. Perhaps taking on a new 'niche' bike brand that will provide a better margin than Planet X. With a proper SEO set-up and some google ad-words there is no limit to the size and scope of the shop. I am more than willing to help in the transition and use my contacts and suppliers to help the new owners move the shop into whichever direction they would like. I'd really love to see the shop succeed and become a big player in the market. As I've mentioned I am more than willing to assist in the transition.

What work have you put into the store?

We had the website built for several thousand dollars. We promoted the business at numerous events over the years and through social media and on Blocket (swedens biggest buy/sell platform). The business is well established and is a household name with Triathletes and known for great prices and fast customer service. I put in 30hrs below because that is all the time I have had in the last year or so as I decided to keep the shop ticking while focussing on other things. When we were building the shop up we were spending 50-100 man hours between my partner and I.

Other details about profit: Most of our products have a profit margin of 50-100% margin but because the Planet X bikes have been a big part of our sales and we caught with pricing issues a few times out average profit margin has been very low. With the right products and enough promotion a new owner could get 50% on most products. Keep in mind that the store sales numbers are very low at the moment because we are selling down the inventory and just keeping the webshop running so that it is fully functional for any potential buyer. Within our first year we had done several million SEK in sales and were ranked in the top 3 start-up e-business that year. We peaked at about 4million SEK in our 3rd year. I have put sales per month at about 100 but that is more of a high-season number. In the low season it may have been around 30-40 orders per month. Profit margins have been very low because a big % of our sales have been Planet X bikes. Planet X is a direct sale company with very low margins. I suggest if a future owner sells bikes they take on a more profitable range of bikes than Planet X.

    How to grow this business

    I would find as many companies as I could who would be interested in Drop-shipping. I would also find the newest and hottest items in the U.S. triathlon market and try to get them in the shop. Utilize some SEO and google adwords, sell products at the Sweden Bike Expo and Ironman Kalmar for marketting and advertise more with social media.

    Skills to have

    The new own should have a vested interest and knowledge of the triathlon market and possibly some education or training in marketting as well as an understanding of SEO and Adwords.
