Business Story

Why this business was started

The passing of my father in 2017 set me on a new, spiritual path. One of discovery and knowledge. On this journey, I discovered the clothing I wore impacted how I felt and above all, my confidence. The psychology is called "enclothed cognition" and once I learned about this psychology, I knew I wanted to help women become the best versions of themselves via clothing. How you feel about yourself truly matters. It can impact how you behave at home, your work performance, your mental health, as well as your physical health. Understanding this psychology helped me personally cope with the death of my father. It also pushed me to start Trinity Clothing. If a customer purchases an item from us and they feel more confident. They stand taller and walk with a "pep in their step", then my goal to help women become the best versions of themselves is complete.

The reason of selling this business

I have a full-time corporate career that has grown over the last year during the pandemic. As a result, it has provided a new growth opportunity that simply doesn't allow for me to focus on Trinity. I know, that in the right hands, Trinity can blossom into an amazing business. It simply needs TLC and someone who has the time (and willing to put in the effort) to build upon what we started. I unfortunately do not have the capacity to grow Trinity beyond what it is today, but I know someone can!

What's involved in running this business

Research, research, research! A good portion of your time is dedicated to purchasing the right inventory for your key demographic. Understanding price points as well as sizing is fundamental. In addition to procuring inventory, business owners must also process all incoming inventory (measuring, weighing, photography, tagging, descriptions, etc...). In addition, fulfilling orders, running Google and social ads, managing social media accounts, creating new and exciting content on all social platforms. Customer service (phone, email, text). Email marketing, which includes creative content. Management of influencer marketing.

Other details about profit: In all fairness, Trinity has been a side business. Due to demands of my full-time career, I have not been able to focus on growing the business. Such as email and SMS marketing, influencer marketing, etc.. In addition, we are self-funded and simply do not have the funds to run Facebook, IG, or Google ads which truly is a necessity. That said, we have built a strong SEO and 40% of sales come from Google via organic searches. January through March typically is the slowest time of year, which impacts our profit margins. Excluding the first quarter, our profit margin averages 30%. We also have a few pop-up shops during the year where payment is paid via Venmo or cash.

    Seller‘s Advice

    How to grow this business

Focusing on social selling and utilizing influencer marketing. The space is highly competitive, and is "pay to play". Thus strong margins coupled with a strong digital ads and influencer marketing.

In addition, be strategic with your inventory purchases. If focusing on fast fashion, it's a bit easier to manage, however, name brands require you purchase six months in advance which we found challenging. Essentially, do not over buy!

    Skills to have

You need to be passionate and willing to do the work. Anyone can run a business as long as they are willing to put in the time and effort.

    Shayna L.Current store owner
Hi, my name is Shayna and I am the co-owner of Trinity Clothing. My husband and I started Trinity Clothing as a passion project in 2018 after the passing of my father. I have a full-time corporate career and was looking for a side hustle. Fortunately, my full-time career has taken off, leading me in new, wonderful direction. Unfortunately, my career growth has limited the time I can dedicate to Trinity. I'd love to see Trinity grow and in the right hands, it can!
