Business Story

Why this business was started

I began because of my love of vintage clothing and having too many clothes! Back in 2009 there weren't many decent online vintage shops in the UK so I saw a gap in the market. As the business grew and the market changed, I introduced our handmade, vintage inspired clothing line as this is something I saw a couple of US based shops having success with.

The reason of selling this business

I've been running the business for 10 years and I feel it's time for a change. I have endless design ideas but don't have the time or money needed to invest. I would love to discuss the potential of continuing to design for the business on a freelance basis. Running the business alone means most of my time is taken up sewing orders and I feel the business is not able to reach it's full potential however I don't have the capacity to take on employees. I am also in the process of buying a house which is in need of some renovation and the money would be beneficial to me at this time.

What's involved in running this business

    Seller‘s Advice

    How to grow this business

I would employ more staff allowing more time and funds to be spent on marketing (currently all marketing is completely organic and cost free via Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest). Employing more staff would also allow more time to be spent on designing and sampling new products so we could continue to expand and update handmade collection, ensuring new designs were brought out twice a year along with keeping up regular vintage stock drops. I would also offer wholesale and consider opening a physical store to increase revenue.

    Skills to have

Some knowledge of garment design would be useful although manufacture could be outsourced. The owner should have a good knowledge of vintage clothing styles especially late 60s to mid 70s in order to adhere to the brand's aesthetic. A good knowledge of the fashion industry along with contacts would be beneficial.
