We noticed a massive trend blowing up on the internet at the time and thought we'd jump on board - this strategy has proved quite profitable. There have been massive cultural shifts lately that have seen women feel a lot more comfortable promoting/talking about the use of sex toys and masturbation - it's now almost seen as a 'status symbol' to talk about those 'raw truths' in your lives - this has allowed us to utilise influencers and organic social reach as marketing strategies. The latest feminist movement has meant that a sex toy company is far less stigmatised than they previously have been, or could be expected to be. The fact that sex toys have previously been stigmatised is actually part of the 'mission' behind the company and is what helps influencers feel comfortable posting to social media - the mission being 'to end the stigma around female sexuality and the use of sex toys'.
The reason of selling this business
My business partner and I have honestly just lost interest in the company. We've recently jumped into the crypto/NFT space, aiming to build a product/company in the area which will take up a bunch of our time and energy. We want to focus on our next big project as opposed to working on an old one. The company is well-positioned to be taken to the next level with influencer deals in place, a large social following, worldwide shipping capabilities and a growing community that's mission-driven - all it now needs is a passionate owner!
What's involved in running this business
General customer service via email (we currently use an overseas virtual assistant)
Managing inventory (while we've had to do this ourselves previously, we now have a new 3PL set up who manages the inventory themselves and will also communicate to suppliers when stock needs to be reloaded)
Social media management (we've continually posted regularly to social media and have outsourced this social media management to another overseas virtual assistant (can be found on Fiverr, freelancer, OnlineJobsph, etc)
Email management for influencer collaborations (another good job to be outsourced to virtual assistants once you build an 'email flow' (i.e script) and can trust their abilities)
Email marketing campaigns (we currently have a subscriber list of over 2000 customers who are ripe to receive email marketing campaigns, especially since we're yet to utilise them ourselves)
Further growth plans (the work involved in exploring the tactics described above)
Bookkeeping (all bookkeeping software have great learning resources which you're able to outsource to virtual assistants)
In November 2020, December 2020 and January 2021, there was a massive focus on influencer marketing, large and small, free and paid. We hit big on some like Jessika Power on lost on others. For the next couple of months (up to May 2021) we focused on re-doing influencers who previously worked well for us and were profitable. By the end of May, we began to dive heavily into crypto research. The period after May is when we took our foot off the pedal a little and tried to put in as little work as possible while maintaining positive cash flow - we were able to do this by continuing social collaborations with Jessika Power over this period, agreeing to a longer term collaboration over a couple of months. For the first couple of months following May, revenues didn't drop too much and because of the lack of marketing expenses profits were solid and actually increasing as time has gone on. Revenue has slowly fallen off as we've basically discontinued marketing as a whole. This is where you come in...!
Jess Power (@jessika_power) is a massive Australian celebrity who first appeared on MAFS and is now currently on VIP Big Brother, she has 365,000 followers and is our best performing influencer. Since she has been so profitable and is currently on Australia's top viewing TV show (VIP Big Brother) her agent thought it would be a good idea to private label a new product for Jessika. This is expected to launch sometime this month (December) and to cause massive media coverage. Jessika Power in the past has created great news coverage for us. This type of explosive media coverage and brand recognition is a great opportunity to secure great wholesale and distribution deals, as well as bring in a lot of sales.
