Business Story
Why this business was started
My partner Rob, our CEO is the inventor of the WhirlyBird Repeller. Rob is a long-time sailor and was getting tired of cleaning up the mess left behind by the sea gulls and grackles on his dock and sailboat. Rob started the company to fill a gap in the market for a reliable product that is easy to install, long lasting, and doesn’t require batteries or external power. The WhirlyBird Repeller was quickly accepted in the marine markets, but then found its way into cell tower, restaurant with outdoor dining, and agricultural markets.
The reason of selling this business
Presently, the company is a little more than a high-volume home-based business, but has much potential for market expansion. The bird deterrent market is in the hundreds of millions in the US along. However, we are now involved in other ventures that are taking up much of our time, leaving no time for proper marketing that is required for expansion.

Seller‘s Advice
How to grow this business
Continuing the marketing plan we have in place will assure continued expansion into the highly profitable bird control market. We are presently 2 years into this 5 year marketing plan. This includes much room for growth in our existing accounts with West Marine, GME Supply, and our international resellers and includes several other marketing targets that are yet untapped. The complete plan will be provided with the store.
Skills to have
The new owner will need general marketing skills, Google AdWords expertise, basic business operation skills, and working knowledge of business accounting practices. Product assembly is not complicated and is well defined for easy training of assembly workers, but will required basic mechanical skills. We have prepared a detailed business plan for the new owner to use to get started quickly with minimal interruption of ongoing sales and expansion into the target markets.
