As a cyclist and racer, I saw the need in the industry. After designing the product, I waited until I had patent protection before launching the business but launched it once we had those patents.

I have other business committments that prevent me from committing the necessary time to this business. I have basically ignored the business yet sales have grown by over 3,747% over last year. If someone commits the time to this business, the growth can reach a very exciting level.

What's involved in running this business

Ordering inventory, marketing, sales, and accounting are what's required to run this business. I have outsourced design and manufacturing so I just take product requirements to my designer and approve. The designer then works with the manufacturer to create prototypes. Once I approve of the prototype, the manufacturer creates the product and delivers it to my door. My time is spent fulfilling inventory (which can be outsourced), marketing, sales, and accounting.

Profitability is currently about $5,000 per month but growing. I sell through other channels where margins are lower, but sales costs are lower. Orders for large quantities of covers are counted as a single order by Shopify. Retail price increased as of October 1, 2021 which will make these numbers increase.

    How to grow this business

    We have just launched in late 2019 with our first bike cover (for road bikes) and within 6 months had 5 pro and semi-pro endorsements. In the spring of 2020 we launched our first mountain bike cover and it is doing well. We now have an eBike / universal bike cover in prototyping and we expect sales to double once it's available based on inbound requests we receive. Continued participation in events and social media marketing will help this business continue to grow in addition to the launching of the eBike cover.
