Why this business was started

A friend and I wanted to make a part time income and try out something new (in our region). Since one of us is an Architect, and both of us are aesthetics, we decided to go after interior design niche. Also trying to build a name for ourselves in interior design world because it's our main passion.

Mainly due to our departure and one of us moving abroad as well as lack of time and money. Besides that, not so good marketing skills.

General description

Friend and I have heard about dropshipping 2 yrs ago and decided to to try it out. With no ecommerce, marketing, selling or dropshipping skills we got into into it. We decided to go after a women fashion niche. It took us 3 months just to set up the theme as we wanted it since non of the free themes had those customization options. After roughly 6 months and barely any sale we figured out that it wasn't going anywhere.. We took 4 months to educate ourselves and learn of ecommerce and marketing. We decided to go after interior design niche since one of us was an architect. We spent a lot of time into building a quality store and finding the best items we could. Dedicated time to our blog and social media (mainly Instagram) and good copywriting. But outside of our affection were payment processors.. We could't use stripe so we had to go after 2checkout (which is garbage) and PayPal was giving us trouble (paypal right..) and that was driving a lot of customers off, Which we could see in large number of abandoned checkouts.. We started generating sales almost year ago. The best part is that all of the sales were organic! We are selling because we both want to go after other things (sport and fashion design) and we don't have sufficient funds nor time right now.

How can the future owner improve the business?

Paid Marketing. All the sales on our site are organic, with right paid marketing it could be scaled a lot.. Also periodical update of blog, site design (media) and some new products..

What work have you put into the store?

Months of work. Theme is free but is customly edited in the code. Media, lot of products with custom descriptions, winner products (good selling items), lot of written content in terms of blog, pages... 3rd Party apps for increased conversion (all free).

    I would mainly focus on paid advertising on Facebook, Instagram and google. Regular update of blogs, products and media. And most of all Instagram growth. Eventually I would look in to producing custom products or at least labeling existing ones. And dropping the 2checkout for stripe.
